The sea gives
and she takes
She lures the stars
straight out of heaven
She crushes
and rolls
She is home
to us all
She embraces
and she whispers
She lies patiently
at our feet
She journeys with us
in our first steps away
She grows mermaid
to be
She urges the wind
to propel the machines
She’s home to an angel
lying in the sand
She invites us all
to come take her hand
She’ll do with a paw
for the canine on her shores

She giggles at their zeal
as they bark themselves hoarse
She kindly carries
the boats and the clouds
She kisses the mermaids
with her sand
She grows a witches’ poison
high up in her dunes
She tempts the naughty little hands
on lazy Sunday afternoons.
