Believe me, I really made an effort to declutter my studio and attic.
But then I ran into this treasure box:
My Postcrossing box!
Are you familiar with Postcrossing?
It’s a way of sending and receiving postcards from all over the world. And it’s lovely! I’ve been doing this twice for a period of time. It’s been 4 years now. But I saved every postcard and letter I received in this box. So, guess what happened to my decluttering resolution when I opened the box?
The things I found in there…classic postcards of tourist sites from a gazillion cities from a gazillion far away lands. I found words that had been scribbled on hastily and without much care. I found letters smudged with tears. A wife died, leaving the husband behind with three children and he didn’t know how he was going to cope, so he sent his story into the world…a little piece of it with every card he sent out. I wonder how he is and if I should perhaps send him another card. I found a handmade japanese bookmark and many thank you notes.
There’s Christmas cards in there and art cards, vintage cards and handmade cards. But whatever card I find in there, is a little pulse from somebody else out there in the universe, trying to get in touch. And just by doing that, it’s fascinating how many people I have – even if only barely – touched.
A few days ago, I sent away a new Postcrossing card. to Germany. And today I requested a few more addresses. So this evening I’m going to make and write a few new cards to send out. I’m looking forward to it. But I also can’t wait to see what will fall on my doormat soon…
