a little girl was born
with a hole in her heart

A whirlpool of Wisteria,
spinning faces and white coats
drew her deep into a sleep.

Little as she was
Deep in her sleep
She knew she would either wake up
or not.

White coats opened her chest
And lay bare
The throbbing essence of her being

Lancets and rubber fingers
Channelled oxygen
Opened valves
And closed holes

Her chest was closed
And lovingly stitched back up
With the zipper of life

The green masks
Had done their work well
And the little girl lived

To be a mommy to little girls.
But every now and then
She offers her heart
To the wite coats again

Has it disected
and pierced
by sound waves…
Two days from now it is that day…
And inside the mommy
The little girl has awoken
Anxious and scared
Of all the things that might be.
The only thing that could soothe her
were light waves…
