Journal page “Le Sage”, gouache and mixed media on Fabriano watercolour paper.

Today I chose to try some layering with only gouache. It requires more tenderness than doing layering in acrylics. Acrylics dry up and once dry are no longer affected by water. Gouache, however, loves water and keeps taking off from the paper. So layering with gouache takes effort, especially on thicker layers it gets tricky.

However, it worked. And I love how it worked out. Gouache has that velvety look once dry and the colours dry up so beautifully. I also love acrylics for I love how it adopts ANY material. But I love the stubborn character of gouache. I used to hate it for the exact same reason, but ever since gouache decided to give me a chance, what we have is gradually turning into a love affair…♥
