Today I’ve been playing with charcoal…I did a few more charcoal sketches of Scott Radke artwork and then moved on to my own faces. Working with the principles I’d figured out in drawing Radke’s figures. And after these first three I noticed that gone was much of the emotion! Help! Where have they gone? I guess I drew them too straightforward as portraits. Radke makes portraits too, but they all seem as if the photographer clicked a split second too soon…just before the object was “ready” for it and pulled up a mask.

I guess that’s going to be my next assignment. Keep working in this style, but try to reveal more of the emotions in the faces. These three all have their own character, but they can do with a little more depth!
