Today’s assignment for Carla Sonheim’s silliness was Blind Contour Drawing.
It’s great fun and the hardest part is letting go of your expectations. I mean, don’t we all hope to produce a picture-perfect portrait? Well, ehrm…did I manage? What do you think?
What I discovered while doing three blind contour drawings of the same picture, is that you start seeing lines better. In the beginning, I draw what I knew or thought was there. But as I moved on, I started seeing the lines for what they were. Gradually my mind no longer instructed my hands, but my eyes did. This is a really nice exercise for hand and eye coordination. I’m going to be doing more of these!
