The past few days I’ve made my journal entries poem only. It has been great! And I’m nowhere near finished. I’ve only just begun! This morning I took one of the poems and created an image to go with it. I enjoyed myself loads and I love the idea of integrating digital technique with creative writing and old school creative image making.
The poem is titled “Search Engine” and it is about how the computer and the internet in particular play a role in my life. All the poems I write are about my daily life or small elements of it enlarged in poetic language. This one I wrote after I noticed myself looking something up in a search engine for about the tenth time that day (and it was not even noon!!!)…it’s about how addicted we are to seeking out information and how briefly the information hangs with us. We look something up, forget it and then look up something else that springs to mind, forget it, and so on… The quickness and ease we can obtain information with, makes us hungry and restless. Or so it makes me, in any case.
I’ll write some English poems soon too. But so far this week has brought me Dutch poems only. I might translate them…..but it’s hard, translating a poem, doing it justice AND stick to its meaning.
Oh, and one more thing before I end this post…the binary row on the right…that is part of the text of the poem translated into binary. Want to give that a try yourself? Want to see what your name looks like in binary numbers?
01010100 01101000 01100101 01101110 00100000 01110000 01101100 01100101 01100001 01110011 01100101 00101100 00100000 01100011 01101100 01101001 01100011 01101011 00100000 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 00101110
The above row of binary numbers says: “Then please, click here.”
